Getting a drawn signature that actually looks like yours
A drawn signature has one advantage over a typed one that nothing else can replicate: it is your hand. If you sign paper documents and digital ones, using the same mark in both places is worth the extra couple of minutes.
Sign fast, not carefully
This is the single most useful piece of advice on this page. Everyone’s instinct when signing with a mouse is to slow down and be precise, and it produces a wobbling, obviously-drawn result every time. Real signatures are ballistic movements — they are fast, largely unconscious, and the smoothness comes from speed rather than care. Sign at close to the speed you would on paper. Expect to need five or six attempts.
What the smoothing does
The pad uses variable-width Bézier interpolation: it fits curves between the raw pointer samples and varies stroke width based on velocity, so fast segments thin out and slow segments thicken, the way a real pen behaves. This is why a fast confident stroke looks better than a slow one — there is more velocity signal to work with.
Choosing pen width
Pick a heavier pen than looks right on screen. A signature that fills a 900-pixel canvas will usually be placed at a fraction of that size in a document, and fine strokes disappear when scaled down or printed. Medium is the safe default; choose Bold if the signature will end up small on a printed page.
If drawing is not working out
Some people simply cannot reproduce their signature with a pointing device, and that is a hardware limitation rather than a personal failing. In that case use the typed generator to pick a script style close to your real hand, then use the practice sheet to converge your handwriting toward it.

A mouse gives you far less fine motor control than a pen, and moving slowly makes it worse. Sign faster than feels comfortable — one quick continuous motion produces smoother curves than careful slow tracing, because the stroke smoothing has more velocity data to work with. A trackpad with a finger, or a touchscreen with a stylus, will always beat a mouse.
Can I use a phone or tablet?
Yes, and it is the best way to use this tool. On a touchscreen you can sign with a finger or a stylus, which is much closer to signing on paper. The pad supports pressure-style width variation based on stroke speed, so a stylus signature looks close to ink.
Is my drawn signature uploaded to a server?
No. The drawing pad is an HTML canvas inside your browser tab and the PNG is encoded on your own device. Your strokes are never transmitted anywhere, which matters more for a drawn signature than a typed one because a drawn signature is a genuine biometric-style artefact.
What is the difference between this and an e-signature service?
This tool makes a signature image. An e-signature service like DocuSign or Adobe Sign manages the whole signing workflow — identity verification, audit trails, tamper-evident sealing and document storage. If you need proof of who signed and when, you need a signing service; if you need a picture of your signature to place on a document, this is the right tool.
